HIPPOCRATES

What must I do prior to my first appointment?

Prior to your initial evaluation you must complete a New Patient Questionnaire. It is preferred that you complete all intake forms 1 week before your scheduled appointment to allow us time to review and prepare for your visit.  If you are having trouble accessing these forms, please let us know.  Please bring all medication and supplements to your first visit. Once you are in the system, you will be able to login to the Power2Practice Patient Portal, where you will be able to access your medical records and correspond with your providers.

Does Spectrum Integrative Health replace my Primary Care Physician?

We require all new patients to have a primary care physician to cover emergencies, routine care and screenings.  Our physicians work as functional medicine consultants in conjunction with your current health care team, not as a replacement for your primary care physician.

What does the consultation fee include?

The consultation fee includes time spent before and after your visit with our providers to review any past lab work and all paperwork and intake forms, including a 90 minute face-to-face consult with a complete functional physical exam.  Please call the office for the consultation fee. Follow-up visits usually last 30-60 minutes depending on complexity and time to review lab work. Our nutritionist consultations are 60 minutes for the first consultation. Nutritional followups are also 30-60 minutes. Nutritionist consultations are a separate fee.

What is your financial policy?

We are an out of network provider with all insurance providers. We do not submit claims for payment to insurance providers, however we will provide patients with a receipt for your services which you may submit to your insurance carrier and when applicable, include appropriate medical codes for reimbursement.

METHOD OF PAYMENT
All payments are due at the time of service.  We accept FSA, HSA, HRA cards that contain a credit logo (Visa, MasterCard) and all major credit cards as payment for service.

In order to secure your scheduled appointment we require all patients to have an active credit card on file. Nothing will ever be charged to your card unless you violate the cancellation policy.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because we have extended visits with our patients and limited availability, it is extremely important that our patients avoid missing their appointments or cancel last minute. In order to avoid confusion, we have outlined our cancellation policies below.

Initial Visit: In the event you miss your initial visit or cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment you will be charged $150.

Follow-up: In the event you miss your follow-up visit or cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment you will be charged a $50 fee.

We will make every effort to remind you of your appointment by both phone and email; however, this is ultimately your responsibility.  Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns related to our cancellation policy.

What if I am late to my appointment?

We are committed to being on time with patient appointments in order to prevent you, and other patients, from unnecessary waiting. If you arrive late to the office for your consultation, your appointment will end at the scheduled time and you will be charged for the length of the scheduled visit.

Will my lab work be covered by insurance?

The lab companies we use for conventional and functional lab testing accept most insurance plans.  We can review lab coverage in more detail once we collect your insurance information at the time of the visit. If your insurance will not cover lab tests, we will discuss the fees in detail with you before ordering any testing.

Why don't you accept insurance assignments?

Many people who have contacted the office for our services have asked why we do not bill insurance directly when other medical and naturopathic providers do.  We fully understand the financial challenge this presents to some patients and wish there were a way for us to bill your insurance company.

Unfortunately, at this time, there is not. Here is why:

When clinics bill health insurance companies directly, doctors are required to become participating providers.  The doctors must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not provide and how much they can charge for those services.  They are heavily invested in the conventional model of health care that too often relies on drugs and surgery.  We are committed to the functional medicine model that addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms with specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.

A participating provider must agree to accept fees the insurance company establishes, regardless of whether the fees are reasonable or applicable to that practice.  In general, these established fees cover the actual cost of the briefest (and we believe the lowest quality) care.  Doctors who are participating providers are required to accept discounted fees for their services, and they cannot bill the patient for the difference between their fee and what the insurance company will pay.  Therefore, the clinic must write off the difference, often as much as 50% or more of the doctor’s fee for service.  At the same time, the participating provider’s office overhead costs have increased dramatically because of the staff, time, and equipment necessary for processing and tracking claims.

Unfortunately, we have found that Spectrum Integrative Health cannot be a participating provider in the insurance networks and provide time-intensive, well-researched, expert intensive care.

Do you sell nutritional supplements?

We recommend nutritional supplements as an adjunct to dietary and lifestyle modification.  This approach is central to the well-researched and science-based practice of functional medicine, which all of our professional staff have studied.  We make available professional grade nutraceuticals as a service to our patients. Patients can order their provider recommended supplements online through our website via Fullscripts, Metagenics and Xymogen.  Please call the office if you need assistance with ordering.

What do the Nutritionists help to treat?

Our Nutritionists can provide medical nutrition therapy to patients with a variety of conditions including: IBS, headaches, heart health, fatigue, allergies, constipation/loose stool, weight gain, Candida overgrowth, failure to thrive, mood imbalances, leaky gut and more.  We find most conditions have a major diet component that can be addressed and improved with nutritional guidance.

Can I file for insurance reimbursement for a nutrition appointment?

We will give you the CPT codes for the appointment and you are welcome to file with your insurance company. Dietitians/Nutritionists, unlike Medical Doctors, cannot diagnose medical conditions so you will not receive any diagnosis codes at your nutrition appointment. This may affect your insurance reimbursement. We recommend checking with your insurance carrier prior to your appointment.

Can I get labs done with the Nutritionist?

Yes, if you are a patient (to be distinguished from wellness coaching). Our Nutritionists are trained to review certain labs related to your nutritional care and make supplement and nutrition recommendations based on your results.  Most things can be addressed sufficiently by supplementation and diet but if you need a prescription, it will require seeing a MD.

Can I become a patient if I live outside of Georgia?

Of course! Patients live outside of Georgia or even outside of the US, so we have adapted our practice to work with patients wherever they may be. If you would like to become a patient and live elsewhere, you will need to be seen in person for your first visit only.  All subsequent consultations may be conducted by phone or our telehealth portal. Please call our office for further assistance.

Will my medical insurance reimburse me for my consultation at Spectrum Integrative Health?

We will provide you with your diagnosis and test codes and a receipt so that you may file for reimbursement with your insurance provider if you choose to do so.  We have found that some insurance companies request additional information that is very specific and specialized to that provider. Given the large number of discrepancies between what each company requires and that time needed to meet those requests, we do not assist with insurance reimbursement above and beyond the diagnosis and tests codes and receipt given at check out.
