Dr. Nicole Peoples is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician specializing integrative and functional medicine. She began her wellness journey as an undergraduate at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she co-founded a wellness program centered on health education. She attended Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine where they emphasized from day one that the comprehensive practice of medicine involved treating the whole person with a broad array of modalities to achieve optimal healing. She spent an additional year completing a primary care teaching fellowship, lecturing and advising medical students while completing several courses in Healthcare Management to broaden her knowledge of the American healthcare system.
She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Alameda County Medical Center, a UCSF affiliate training program. It was here she began formal training in health behavior change. Although her passion was in promoting wellness, she found it increasingly difficult to adequately influence the behaviors of her patients under the restricted time constraints of modern medical practice. She was also dissatisfied with the overuse of medications and surgery to address medical issues that could be addressed with nutrition, fitness, detoxification, stress management and self-awareness. To supplement her conventional education she attended numerous nutrition and integrative health conferences held by Harvard, Andrew Weil, American College of the Advancement of Medicine and the Institute of Functional Medicine. She is board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine and certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine.
She has held positions in Health Promotions and Worksite Wellness at Stanford University College of Medicine as well as in clinical practice in Hospital Medicine and Functional Medicine.
Dr. Peoples’ focus is on obtaining and maintaining optimal health through nutrition, gut health and hormone balancing. She works with healthy patients wanting to enhance health, performance and aging as well as patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, autoimmune disease, thyroid dysfunction, heart disease and much more.
She is a proud wife and mother of three children. She is an avid believer in whole food nutrition, life-long fitness and the mind-body connection in achieving health. She emphasizes these principles in the life of her family and patients. She enjoys classical dance as well as yoga and gardening.
